PIP ADAMS

Paintings

Above all else. I love colour. I mix it to create richness, vibrancy and place striking colours next to each other for unusual contrast.

My work is bold, messy and abstract. I use oil paints, thick and sensuous that create movement across the canvas. Helped by big brushes, fingers and edited with rags. I want the viewer to find something new with each look into the canvas: marks, textures, lines, hints of flora. Like the unruliness of nature or a wild garden, the paintings should feel as alive as the subjects they depict.

For over twenty years I have designed fashion fabrics, oftentimes with florals. Loose, tight, expressive or to a specific brief. My paintings are an extension of this narrative, but they burst from me with freedom, full of life, energy and colour.

About

I have spent over three decades working as a freelance illustrator and textile designer. My clients include: Papyrus, Zara, Gap, H&M, Royal Opera House, Camden Graphics, Marks and Spencer.

Working in many mediums, I am particularly drawn to flowers because of the form and colour. I love to paint in an abstract way and am especially interested in the relationship between the variety of colours and mixing them to create richness and vibrancy. I regularly exhibit my paintings at arts festivals and galleries…
